What do you get when you bring focus, energy, fantastic natural resources and community development to the sport of Netball? Beach Netball of course!
After seeing a huge surge in junior Netball participants, the Port Melbourne Netball Club was formed in 2014 by a group of volunteers lead by President, Trish Oliver. “Our aim is to provide opportunities for the local community to play netball and advance their skill level in a friendly, inclusive, social environment. Whether you’re aged 5 or 50, we are committed to skill development of all players, coaches and officials.”
In association with the Port Melbourne Business Association, the Port Melbourne Netball Club have secured a Beach Netball event in Port Melbourne this November! Taking place at the Port Melbourne Surf Life Saving Club, Beach Netball is a modified and simpler version of one of the highest participation sports in the country. Involving women’s, mixed and kids’ competitions, Beach Netball provides a great workout, is low impact and really easy to pick up.
For the first time, from 18-20 November, Port Melbourne will play host to teams from around Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia, in what is hoped will become an annual event.
A festival of fun, fitness, health and wellbeing, Port’s Beach Netball will see food trucks, bars and excitement set to a soundtrack provided by some of the countries best DJ’s right here on our beach!
Catering to everyone, Beach Netball includes a MASS NETFIT Netball session on the beach, a celebrity match, food, music and the Official Beach Netball Party.
Australian Diamond and Melbourne Vixen Premiership player, Liz Watson is especially excited about the inclusion of Beach Netball on the sporting calendar. “I’m pumped to be involved in Beach Netball. It’s new, it’s fun and it’s celebrating the best sport, in the greatest sporting city in the world.”
